John Baldwin
Born: 27 March 1805, Baptised 21 Apr 1805 to Samuel Baldwin and Mary Warren.

Buried: 2nd July 1871 St Edmonds Assington, Suffolk

Married 26th November 1826 Bures St Mary, Suffolk

Sarah Reason (Reson)
Born: 1803, Baptised 1st April 1803
Died: 4th June 1856 Sudbury Road, Bures St Mary Suffolk

Their children that I know of are:
  • John Baldwin (1827-1827)
  • Maryann Baldwin (c1840-1914) - Maryann married James Rice 7 April 1860
  • Susan Baldwin (c1844-1920) - Married William George Baker 11 Oct 1865 (my 2x Great Grandparents)

I have not been able to find any trace of Maryann's and Susan's birth.

Unfortunately there are a number of tree's on Ancestry that have my Susan connected to theirs. There were 3 John & Sarah Baldwin families living in the same area's during the 1841 census, which people have connected together. I have done extensive search as outlined in my Blog, which explains why these families are not in any way connected to my John & Sarah.

John and Sarah appear in the 1851 UK Census along with two daughters.
John Baldwin (46), Born Bures, Suffolk and listed as a Pensioner Chelsea
Sarah Baldwin (47), Born Boxford, Suffolk
Maryann (11) - Born Bastead Suffolk
Susan (8) - born Stoke, Suffolk

John appears in the 1861 UK census living with daughter Susan
John Baldwin (55) born Bures Suffolk, Occupation: Chelsea Pensioner
Susan Baldwin (17) born stoke by Nayland Suffolk

John again appears in the 1871 census living with his daughter Maryann and her husband James Rice at Assington, Sudbury and is shown to be 65, occupation: Solder Pensioner and born Bures St Mary

John Baldwin died on the 28th June 1871 at Assington, Suffolk. He was 65 and his occupation on his death certificate shows, Chelsea Pensioner. John's military record was located at Findmypast. Even though it is a little hard to read, he states he was 18 years old and was born at Bures St Mary. He enlisted on the 14th November 1825 and served until 1846.
John and Sarah do not appear in the 1841 census and I suspect this is to do with John being in the military. From his Chelsea Pensioner papers he spent 11 years in the East Indies and 1 year 11 months in New South Wales & Tasmania.
